ABOUT THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE FOR CIVIC LEADERSHIP
The American Institute for Civic Leadership (AICL) is a nonprofit civic education organization based in Louisiana with a national mission to strengthen constitutional literacy, critical thinking, civic responsibility, and informed participation through education.
AICL develops the National Civic Leadership & Constitutional Literacy Program, an evolving grades 6–12 civic education system built around constitutional principles, American history, civil discourse, civic leadership, educator collaboration, measurable student growth, and Responsible AI.
Our educational principle is simple:
TEACH STUDENTS HOW TO THINK — NOT WHAT TO THINK.
Rather than treating curriculum development as a one-time publishing process, AICL works with educators and uses classroom experience, student learning evidence, and structured feedback to continually strengthen its educational materials.
What began as an approximately 89-page foundational curriculum was expanded through educator collaboration into a 121-page middle and high school curriculum. Deeper sixth-grade development has since expanded that foundation into approximately 1,090 pages of curriculum and supporting instructional resources.
AICL is now working to apply that same educator- and classroom-driven development model across grades 6–12.

LEADERSHIP
The American Institute for Civic Leadership was founded by Matt Davis, who serves as a Founding Partner and Civic Educator and leads the development of AICL’s broader civic education and Responsible AI initiatives in collaboration with educators, community members, and institutional partners.
Davis developed the original framework for the National Civic Leadership & Constitutional Literacy Program, which has since been expanded and refined through educator collaboration and real-world classroom experience.
The work is structured to prioritize constitutional principles, neutrality, transparency, academic rigor, and nonpartisan civic education while keeping educators and human judgment at the center of the development process.
AICL is based in Louisiana and is building an educational model designed to serve educators, schools, students, and communities across the United States.
